FILE: 2024-496: A 57-year-old Coquitlam man remains in custody this morning after an unsettling incident Saturday afternoon.

In the early afternoon of February 3, 2024, Port Moody Police were called to a store in Suter Brook Village for a report of a man who made concerning comments to a staff member. He allegedly indicated he would be carrying out acts of violence the following day.

Frontline officers attended the store but the suspect had since departed. However, officers were able to quickly identify the man as James Quirin, who was arrested at his Coquitlam residence a short time later. A search warrant was executed at the residence where weapons and ammunition were seized. Charges relating to the incident, including careless use or storage of a firearm, have been approved and the file remains under investigation.

“Fortunately, the staff member reported this suspicious behavior to us, which resulted in a safe resolution to this matter” states Constable Sam Zacharias. “Anyone who may have information that will assist our investigation is asked to contact us.”
