FILE2024-968: Port Moody Police are investigating an unusual incident overnight which resulted in a vehicle submerged in Burrard Inlet.

On March 4, 2024 just prior to 10 p.m., officers responded to a report of a live-streaming video taking place at Rocky Point boat launch where a man was allegedly being paid to drive his vehicle into the inlet.

Upon police arrival, the vehicle was fully submerged in the ocean. The driver was located at scene and detained. He was later released from scene and criminal charges – including mischief and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle – are being considered.

The vehicle remains in the inlet at this time as tow operators were unsuccessful with removing it last night. As a result, the boat launch is partially closed.

Police are aware of videos of this incident circulating on social media. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact us.
