File:  2022-5295 –

Police are investigating a suspicious fire at Sasamat Lake on Thursday evening.

On October 6, 2022 at about 7 p.m., Port Moody Fire Rescue responded to a report of a wildfire at Whitepine Beach – near the concession stand. Thanks to the quick actions of firefighters, the flames were extinguished and the fire did not spread beyond a 20 by 30 meter footprint. Fire investigators believe the fire to be human-caused and Port Moody Police have since launched an investigation into the incident.

There is also a third-hand report that an unidentified female (no further description) was seen fleeing the vicinity of the fire. Police want to speak with this woman, as well as anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious.

“Thankfully this fire was reported promptly and quickly contained by fire crews” states Constable Sam Zacharias. “Given the current fire danger rating, we are asking the public to be extra vigilant and report suspicious activity to us immediately.”
