FILE:  2023-3911 – A report of mail theft lead to the arrest of an alleged fraudster this past Friday.

In July of 2023, Port Moody Police Department (PMPD) were called to a mail theft in Suter Brook Village. About one month later, a PMPD frontline officer located a stolen vehicle while making proactive patrols. The driver was arrested and ultimately linked to the mail theft. The suspect – a man in his 30’s with a criminal record – is now believed to be involved in numerous local frauds and thefts that occurred over the past several months.

Investigators arrested the suspect again this past Friday which was followed by the execution of a search warrant at his Port Moody residence. The search resulted in the seizure of hundreds of pieces of identification, stolen mail, stolen licence plates and devices used to make fraudulent identification. The suspect has been released from custody and investigators will be recommending multiple fraud-related charges to Crown Counsel.

“Incidents like these highlight the importance of reporting fraud to police as it led to an arrest and undoubtedly prevented future frauds” states Constable Sam Zacharias. “Fraud is becoming increasingly sophisticated and we highly encourage the public to take extra care of their personal information”.
