FILE: 2023-6423 – Port Moody Police arrested an alleged poppy donation thief yesterday afternoon.

On the evening November 6, 2023, staff at a Newport Village retailer contacted Port Moody Police Department after observing a man cut and subsequently steal a poppy donation box. Police attended but were unable to locate the suspect as he had fled the scene.

However, after police investigation, the suspect was identified and subsequently arrested by Port Moody Police officers Thursday afternoon in Port Coquitlam. The suspect – a man in his 50’s – is well-known to police. The investigation continues as police look to recommend charges relating to the theft.

“This behaviour is disgraceful” states Constable Sam Zacharias. “These incidents certainly resonate with our community as a whole and we treat them seriously.”
