On December 9, 2023 just after 6 a.m., frontline officers were called to a home in a lower Heritage Mountain neighborhood of Port Moody for a report of a possible fight between multiple people.

Upon police attendance, frontline officers were met by a man in possession of a knife and bear spray. The man fled from police but was stopped after a brief foot pursuit, and officers utilized a Conducted Energy Weapon to gain control of the him. Simultaneously, a female confronted another officer while holding a large knife. She was taken into custody without further incident.

It was determined the parties were under the influence of recreational drugs and had been hallucinating. It was learned the parties believed someone was going to harm them with a firearm, though this was later confirmed to be unfounded. Both parties were transported to hospital and weapon-related charges are being recommended. The weapons have been seized as part of the investigation (see attached image).

“This was a chaotic scene and thankfully no one was seriously injured” states Constable Sam Zacharias. “We believe this incident is isolated in nature and there is no further risk to the public”
