PORT MOODY- It is with great pleasure that the Port Moody Police and the Rotary Club of Port Moody can announce the arrival of the Port Moody Police Mobile Community Service Unit.
The Rotary Club of Port Moody has generously donated and outfitted a trailer that the Port Moody Police will be taking to community events and outreach opportunities. This Community Service Unit will contain an array of Crime Prevention materials including a drunk-driving investigation display, boating safety display, as well as a British Columbia Child Find station, Auto Crime Prevention and an assortment of information packages for the public.
“This is an interactive tool that will allow us to connect with the community at community events and give them some insight into policing and crime prevention programs. People can walk through the trailer and handle the breathalyzer, roadside screening devices and boating safety equipment. We wouldn’t be able to provide this fantastic opportunity without the generous support of the Rotary Club of Port Moody and ICBC,” says Sergeant Travis Carroll of the Port Moody Police Community Services Section.
The Community Services Unit will also provide a secondary role as a small Police command post in the event of extended duration crime scenes. The unit can provide investigators with a covered, lighted workspace with electrical power for charging laptops, mobile data terminals or communication devices.
The Port Moody Police would like to express their sincere thanks to the Rotary Club of Port Moody, Rotary Club International for their continued generosity with policing programs for the Port Moody Police and the City of Port Moody. Within the last three years, the Rotary Club has provided funding to support a comfortable family interview room within the police department, Police Victim Services educational presentations for youth and the Community Services Unit. The Port Moody Police would also like to thank ICBC for their continued support. The Port Moody Police shares a strong partnership with ICBC in Auto Crime Prevention and Road Safety campaigns.
The Community Services Unit will be operational for the first time at the Port Moody Community Fair on June 23 2018 from 11 to 3.
