SUBJECT: TFA Suspect Arrested

FILE# 2018-2565

PORT MOODY – In April 2018, the Port Moody Police Department issued a media release informing the community of a notable increase in theft from autos occurring throughout the Heritage Mountain area of the city. Since that time officers have been working diligently to locate and arrest any suspects involved in this type of crime.

On May 10, 2018 at approximately 4:30 a.m., several of our members were in the area of Heritage Mountain Blvd investigating reports of theft from autos. While still in the area, a resident of Greenleaf Drive called to report that, within the past 20 minutes, someone had attempted to gain access to his truck by pulling the door handles. The resident advised that he was able to capture the suspect on surveillance video.

A detailed description of the suspect was obtained and forwarded to other members patrolling the area. A short time later, police received a second call from another nearby resident who reported seeing a suspicious male peering inside parked vehicles near Cranberry Court and Sycamore Drive. Police noted that the suspect descriptors of both incidents were consistent.

As a result, police quickly intercepted a male who matched these descriptions. While investigating him, attending officers observed several vehicles within the vicinity had recently been rummaged through. The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest. A search of him revealed a quantity of stolen property associated to the prior reported theft from autos.

Further investigation of the suspect revealed he was also in breach of his probation. He was transported to police cells where he would be held in custody for court. Police recommended charges to Crown Counsel for multiple counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, in addition to a charge for Breach of Probation.

The Port Moody Police wish to thank both witnesses in this matter for their assistance. It is only with the cooperation of our watchful residents that we were able to quickly bring

this case to a successful conclusion. In so many ways our residents truly are the eyes and ears of our community; this case is a clear example of that.

As always, we remind residents to please ensure their vehicles are locked securely, and all valuables removed each night, so as not to encourage repeat occurrences. Thieves work in the daytime and at night. If you see any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, please call us.

Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact the Port Moody Police Department or Crime Stoppers (bccrimestoppers.com).
