PORT MOODY – On May 5, 2018, a complainant contacted the Port Moody Police Department to advise that her personal identity information had been compromised and that unknown suspects had used that information to gain access to her bank account. Specifically, the complainant stated that approximately $50,000 of her line of credit had been spent through March and April.

Investigation revealed that the funds had been used at approximately 50 locations throughout the Lower Mainland. These locations included a variety of businesses, automated teller machines, and a casino.

On June 7, 2018, in relation to this investigation, members of the Port Moody Police Community Action Team and Patrol resources executed a search warrant in the 19800-block of 37A Avenue in Langley. Numerous individuals were found at the home and a 34-year-old female from Langley was arrested at the scene.

This female has since been charged with two counts of unauthorized use of credit card data and a breach of recognizance. She remains in custody at this time.

Police remind people to maintain a careful watch over their banking activity. Unfortunately, informational breaches do occur but the damage done can be mitigated by early detection.

Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact the Port Moody Police Department or Crime Stoppers (bccrimestoppers.com).
