On July 9, 2021 at approximately 11:30 pm, Port Moody Police Department (PMPD) member were in the Glenayre area for an unrelated call for service when they heard what they thought to be a collision.  PMPD members patrolled the area and located a multi-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Glenayre Drive, Port Moody.

It was determined that two vehicles, a blue Saturn and a black Ford, both lost control.  The Saturn collided with a parked vehicle and subsequently a residential home.  Upon police arrival, the Saturn’s engine was engulfed and the lone occupant was trapped inside the vehicle.  A PMPD member extinguished the fire with a police-issued fire extinguisher.

Soon after, Port Moody Fire Rescue and British Columbia Ambulance Service arrived on scene.  The driver of the Saturn was safely removed from the vehicle and transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the Ford was uninjured.

At this time, the collision is still under investigation.  Speed and driving behaviour are believed to be factors.  Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage to contact PMPD quoting file number 2021-3771.

“Edit:  there was a Good Samaritan who also assisted with extinguishing the fire using his personal fire extinguisher.  PMPD appreciates his assistance and apologizes it was missed in initial media release'”
