On October 1, 2021 at approximately 3:20 pm, Port Moody Police Department (PMPD) received a report of a bomb threat to Seaview Elementary School.  PMPD members attended the school promptly.  Class was not in session but there were several user groups and staff still on site.  PMPD members fully evacuated the building and contained the area.  With assistance from the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service, the school was fully searched and it was determined that the threat was unfounded.  At this time, we believe this incident to be a prank, often referred to as “swatting”.

A short time later, PMPD members identified a youth suspect in relation to this incident.  The suspect was arrested for public mischief without incident.  The suspect was later released and the investigation continues.

PMPD is also aware of similar incidents occurring in other nearby jurisdictions.  PMPD is working with both Burnaby RCMP and Metro Vancouver Transit Police to determine if these incidents are related.
