On April 10, 2015 at approximately 0125 hours a member of the Port Moody Police Department was conducting patrols around a problematic area known for drug trafficking and prostitution. The officer saw a van pull into the parking area only to speed away 45 seconds later. As it departed, the vehicle was travelling well above the speed limit. As such, the officer conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle on St. Johns Street and a second officer arrived on scene as cover. During his interaction with the driver, the initial officer saw a vial of what appeared to be cocaine protruding from the suspect’s hoody pocket. The officer subsequently told the male he was under arrest for possession of a controlled substance.

The non-compliant driver began yelling at police and refused to exit the vehicle. The cover officer opened the passenger door to assist in extricating the suspect from the vehicle. The driver then put the van into drive and began pulling away with the cover officer hanging from the passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle sped away with the officer clinging to the roof and open door. To avoid being dragged down, the officer managed to pull himself inside the vehicle. From the passenger seat the officer was able to subdue the driver, force the vehicle into park and stop the vehicle from travelling further than one city block, ensuring the safety of the public.

The male was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody without further incident. Upon his arrest Police recovered a loaded handgun in the male’s man-purse as well as drugs suspected to be cocaine and heroin.

As a result of the investigation 42 year old Jeremy JESSON is facing the following 8 charges:

• Possession of a firearm while prohibited.
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
• Carrying a concealed weapon.
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
• Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
• Possession of a controlled substance.
