SUBJECT: Theft from Autos

PORT MOODY – The Port Moody Police Department has recently noticed an increase in car break-ins, specifically in the quieter residential areas, usually overnight.  The area of Heritage Mountain has been targeted over the last month however all neighborhoods can easily be victimized.

Unfortunately opportunistic thieves can be very proficient at blending in with the community, as they search for easy targets such valuables within locked and even unlocked vehicles.   Within seconds a thief can open an unlocked door or smash a window to gain access, remove visible items from the seat and disappear without detection.

April is Auto Crime Prevention Month and the Port Moody Police are reminding the public to ensure they always lock their vehicle doors, and absolutely refrain from leaving valuables inside.   Wallets, purses, keys and electronics are easy targets, as they can contain personal information or access to homes which may lead to further victimization.

While our members are proactively making patrols throughout the city, we still need our residents to be the eyes of your neighbourhood.   If you observe a suspicious person or circumstances you believe to be related to criminal activity, please call the police immediately.
