FILE: N/A – With the return of summer-like weather, Sasamat Lake has seen influxes of park goers along with parking scofflaws.  Port Moody Police are once again reminding motorists that parking on Bedwell Bay Road is prohibited.

“Those who choose to park on the road will be ticketed and towed.  It is very hazardous to park on this road as it causes congestion and prevents first responders from responding to emergencies quickly” states Constable Sam Zacharias.

And the lake has had no shortage of emergencies and incidents .  Here are a few of the files that Port Moody Police officers have responded to in the past week:

– A group of young men in possession of pellet-style gun and shooting rounds off near the beach;

-An aggressive motorist who disobeyed flaggers and drove into oncoming traffic to enter the full parking lot and nearly struck the gate;

-A group of heavily intoxicated adults loudly boasting about how they were going to drive home, one of which required medical attention;

-A bonfire set in the forest, left unattended overnights and extinguished by firefighters;

-And perhaps most bizarre of all, an agitated woman reportedly attempted to take a baby goose (gosling) home and was confronted by citizens.  The woman allegedly threw the gosling, harming the bird, then fled the scene (this incident remains under investigation).

Police will continue to patrol the park and surrounding roadways; the public is asked to call police immediately to report emergencies and illegal activity.
