The following are items of interest for the period of Sept. 1 – 15, 2015.
Property Crime:
A storage locker at 110 Brew Street was broken into. A rather expensive bicycle was stolen.
A residence was broken into on Sentinel Road.
Many of our local teens and tweens are back at school. This may also mean new gadgets and whatnot accompanying them. If you have a youth in your life, remind them that phones, tablets and laptops need to be locked away somewhere safe when not in use. On that note, on September 10th a student had her new iPhones stolen in the time it took her to walk to the teacher’s desk and back. Unfortunately we will take dozens of calls like this throughout the year. Talk to your kids about expectations surrounding securing their expensive phones. Have them activate the find my iPhone app and write down their IMEI.
Police received a report of houses being egged. The officers located the suspect vehicle and dealt with the 17 year old male driver/egger. Officers phoned the youth’s parents and had them come get their son.
A vehicle was stolen from Ioco Road and had yet to be recovered.
The Noons Creek Hatchery and surrounding property were the target of graffiti vandalism. The tag “2 Dollars” was located.
Road Safety:
A 24 year old male from Coquitlam had his motorcycle impounded for excessive speed after being found travelling in excess of 100 km/h on the roadway heading to White Pine Beach.
School is back in session so please leave extra time and be mindful of your speed. Officers will be out in force around local schools to help “remind” drivers to obey the posted 30 km/h limit.
Police arrested a prohibited driver and seized various drugs including magic mushrooms and marijuana. The driver was issued a ticket for “no drivers license”.
A 40 year old male received a 90 day driving prohibition for drinking and driving.
112 tickets were issued (a combination of warnings and fines). Since school is in session drivers can expect to see police around school zones.
Items of Interest:
Around 1 am on September 1st, an officer stopped a vehicle after it made an illegal turn leaving a local pub. When speaking with the driver, a 36 year old female from Chilliwack, the officer smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The female driver was arrested for possession of marijuana. In the course of the arrest the woman bit one of the officers on the bicep leaving noticeable teeth marks. She is now facing charges for assaulting a police officer.
On September 7, officers responded to the parking lot of a local store after reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located two men physically fighting. The aggressor male had allegedly threatened the victim with a gun. A 26 year old male from Coquitlam was arrested and officers located tow air rifles in the suspects vehicle. Police are requesting charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.
