On July 13, 2021 at approximately 5am, Port Moody Police Department (PMPD) responded to a residential break and enter in the East Hill area of Port Moody.  A resident awoke to an alarm, discovering their garage door had been opened and valuable items were stolen from inside the garage.

The attentive resident observed a suspect vehicle driving away, and a licence plate number was obtained.  Observations were also made of a male suspect on foot, in possession of the stolen items.  Rather than engage the male suspect, the resident did the right thing by immediately contacting police.

Upon arrival, the female suspect was intercepted while fleeing the area in a vehicle, and subsequently arrested.  A short time after, the male suspect was located fleeing the area on foot by another officer.  The male suspect was also arrested for break and enter of a dwelling house and breach of court imposed conditions.  Both suspects were held in custody for a bail hearing with a Judicial Justice of the Peace.

The investigation has revealed the garage was entered using a garage door opener stolen from a vehicle parked near the property.  “This is a common technique use by property offenders to gain access into residences” states Sergeant Fraser Renard.  “It is a good reminder to those with garage door openers to ensure they are removed from vehicles when parked on the street”.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with closed-circuit television in the area on July 13, 2021 between 3am and 5am, to contact PMPD.
