File: 2021-6631 – A would-be thief was caught twice in the same night after alert residents called the police.
On November 30, 2021, just prior to midnight, Port Moody Police were called to the Coronation Heights neighbourhood after residents observed a man gaining access to vehicles. Frontline officers attended the area and witnessed the suspect rummaging through a car. The man was arrested for theft and stolen items were recovered.
The man was later released on an undertaking and transported out of the area to prevent further criminal activity.
Four hours later, Port Moody Police received a report of a suspicious man in the the same neighbourhood attempting to gain access into residential yards. Upon arrival, police located the same man who was previously arrested hours prior. He was in possession of numerous stolen items. Police seized the items and most have already been returned (including approximately $3000 worth of tools)
The man remains in custody to be seen by a Justice.
“We thank the public for reporting these incidents right away, resulting in valuable property being recovered” states Constable Sam Zacharias. There are still unclaimed recovered items and – as always – we encourage anyone who may have been a victim of theft on the evening of November 30th to contact the Port Moody Police Department.
