File: 2024-3457, 2024-3433:
Several high-risk drivers were removed from Port Moody roads this past weekend.
On July 22, 2024 at about 1 a.m., a frontline officer clocked a vehicle excessively speeding, travelling 111 km/h in the 3100 St Johns Street (posted 50 km/h zone). A traffic stop was conducted and it was determined the female driver possessed a class 7 ‘Learners’ licence and had no supervisor but an overloaded vehicle with 6 passengers (though the vehicle only accommodated 4 passengers). It was also determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol; she now faces a driving prohibition, impoundment, and violation tickets.
In another concerning incident, on July 20, 2024 at approximately 3:45 p.m., a driver was reported fleeing Sasamat Lake after allegedly hitting a parked motorcycle and knocking it over. The vehicle was intercepted on Ioco Road, occupied by the driver and her child. Impairment was believed to be a factor; the driver had her licence prohibited and vehicle impounded while the hit & run investigation continues.
“Throughout July, we have been conducting enhanced enforcement as part of CounterAttack month, resulting in many drivers being removed from our roads” states Constable Sam Zacharias. “Our message remains the same, if your plans involve impairing substances please plan a safe ride home.”
