PORT MOODY – December 16, 2018, Port Moody police officers responded to two collisions involving pedestrians along St Johns Street. Luckily, no serious injuries were sustained in either of the two collisions.
2018-7210: At approximately 9 a.m., a vehicle was turning right onto St Johns Street from Moray Street when the driver struck a pedestrian crossing the street.
The pedestrian sustained a minor scrape to her right knee and attended hospital as a precaution.
2018-7215: At approximately 2 p.m., another vehicle was making a left turn from Kyle Street onto St Johns Street when the driver struck a female pedestrian who had been crossing the street. A second pedestrian crossing at the same time was able to avoid being struck by the vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the female was transported to hospital with minor injuries to her left side, and is expected to make a full recovery.
The drivers from both collisions remained on scene and cooperated with the police investigations. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors.
The Port Moody Police would like to take this opportunity to remind drivers and pedestrians alike to remain alert to their surroundings while driving on or crossing our roadways, especially during the busy holiday season! Drivers are reminded to keep their focus on the road and be ready to yield to pedestrians, particularly at intersections.
Pedestrians are being asked to remember that they are often difficult to see in poor weather conditions or dark locations. Never assume that a driver has seen you until you make eye contact with the driver. Please wear reflective clothing to make it easier to be seen in poor conditions.
