Port Moody high school students had a firsthand look at the dangers of high-risk driving.
On the morning of June 2nd, 2022, senior students at Heritage Woods Secondary School took part in a mock crash scenario. The students assembled on David Avenue to watch emergency first responders flood the scene of a recreated single-vehicle collision. Several student actors played the role of vehicle occupants, with one being arrested for impaired operation causing bodily harm. Another student actor was extracted and treated for serious injuries.
“The goal of this event is to provide a realistic perspective of the dangers of impaired driving and speeding as students enter into grad season” states Constable Sam Zacharias.
We’re committed to supporting youth develop strong decision-making skills on the road through our road safety speaker program, school-based curriculum and our support of mock crashes” said Kathleen Nadalin, local ICBC road safety coordinator. “Young drivers can also use our new Street Sense app to learn how to recognize and avoid hazards while driving in a safe, online environment.”
The Port Moody Police Department and ICBC would like to thank the student actors as well as agency partners at Port Moody Fire Rescue, BC Ambulance Service, the City of Port Moody and School District 43 who all aided with organization and implementation of this re-enactment.
