The Port Moody Police Department officially launches 529 Garage!

When: Wednesday May 29, 2019 (7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.)

Where: The corner of Murray Street & Ioco Road, Port Moody

The Port Moody Police Department wishes to invite you and your family to bring your bicycles to our official bike registration launch event during Bike to Work Week.

Registering your bicycle with 529 Garage not only helps to prevent bike thefts, but in the case a bicycle is stolen, it greatly increases your chances of having it returned. Best of all, it’s FREE!

Registration only takes a few minutes. Join us Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the corner of Murray Street and Ioco Road where we will be happy to assist you in registering your bike.

529 Garage is a born-in-Vancouver initiative that has grown to be the world’s largest bike registration program. Users, including police officers, can access the 529 Garage app from their mobile devices to quickly trace stolen bikes.

How does it work?

Bike owners, simply bring your bicycle to one of our many hosted community events throughout Port Moody and ask us to register it with 529 Garage.

We will ask you a few simple questions, snap a few photos, and then load all of the important information about your bicycle onto our comprehensive database. We will then place a 529 Garage ID tag on your bicycle. This process takes five to seven minutes per bicycle.

In future, if your bike is lost or stolen, with the simple push of a button on the 529 Garage app (or website), you can send an immediate alert to all your friends, family, neighbours, and quite literally every 529 Garage member. The alert will also be accessible to over 400 policing agencies, bike shops and clubs around the world.

Obviously, you will still need to report your bicycle as lost or stolen to your local police. However, 529 Garage casts a much wider net, providing a greater opportunity for a successful recovery.

The Port Moody Police Department will be hosting three dedicated 529 Garage events throughout the summer at various locations. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook (@PortMoodyPD) for location details. We are strongly encouraging all residents, friends and neighbours to bring your bicycles down and register with us at the public events we are hosting.

Additionally, you can visit our Mobile Community Services Unit at various community events this summer, such as the Port Moody Community Fair, Golden Spike Days, Rib-Fest, and Car Free Day.

You can find out more on the 529 Garage website located at www.project529.com

We hope to see you at our official 529 Garage launch during Bike to Work Week. We will be set up and ready to register bikes at the corner of Murray Street and Ioco Road on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
