Police arrested a man after he allegedly smashed multiple vehicle windows and uttered threats in Eagle Ridge Hospital parking lot on Monday evening.
On December 11, 2023 just before 9 p.m., Port Moody Police frontline officers were called to a report of a male smashing vehicle windows in the hospital’s parking lot (see attached photo of one of the damaged vehicles). He then allegedly threatened a security guard prior to fleeing from the scene. Minutes later, officers arrested a man matching the suspect’s description several blocks away.
A search of the suspect yielded numerous tools and alleged stolen property, including passports. It was learned he had been released with conditions several hours prior for similar alleged offences in another jurisdiction.
Charges of mischief, theft, uttering threats, and fail to comply with a probation order (in relation to break-in instruments) have been approved by Crown Counsel against 34-year-old Nicholas Yachiw. Yachiw is currently in custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 15.
“Thanks to the security guard who immediately reported this incident, officers were able to quickly track down and arrest the suspect” states Constable Sam Zacharias. “Any other witnesses or potential victims are asked to contact us and quote file number 2023-6998.”
