SUBJECT: Assault at Liquor Store FILE: 2022-85
A trio of teenagers were arrested after a brazen assault of staff members at a Port Moody liquor store.
On January 5, 2022 at about 5:15 p.m., Port Moody Police Department received a call of three clearly underage youths attempting to purchase liquor at a liquor store. They were refused service and in retaliation, one of the youths pulled out concealed bear mace and sprayed multiple staff members, fleeing the area on foot.
Frontline officers flooded the area promptly, however, the suspects had since departed onto a nearby Skytrain. The suspects were tracked into New Westminster, where they were all arrested without incident by New Westminster Police Department officers.
The file remains under investigation and charges have not yet been approved by Crown Counsel. “It is unfortunate that frontline employees took the brunt of this unnecessary and vindictive act of violence” states Constable Sam Zacharias, adding “any other victims or witnesses inside the store who have not yet spoken to police are asked to contact us.”
