On July 06, 2021, the Port Moody Police Department (PMPD) received a report of a fraud that occurred at a local business, where a female suspect arranged a $2800 purchase over the phone and later produced a forged driver’s license.  A male suspect attended the business and completed the purchase while presenting stolen identification.  The transaction initially went through but was later rescinded by the credit card company.

Police were ultimately able to identify the female suspect and later executed a search warrant in a downtown Vancouver apartment.  The search warrant netted numerous fraud devices, like an embosser and card readers [see image below], as well as stolen mail, including some from New York state, and the personal identity information of numerous other individuals.

On July 25, 2021, the PMPD received a report of a theft of a backpack and subsequent fraudulent use of credit cards.  Police identified a suspect and conducted a search warrant in a Richmond residence.  Investigators seized a significant number of fraud related items, including identification belonging to other people and stolen mail – some items even dating back decades.

Both files demonstrate the tenacity of our investigators and also show how important it is for the public to report these offences. In both instances, police located items stolen from various jurisdictions and have begun to contact potential fraud victims – many of whom are unaware their information has been compromised.  This serves as a great reminder to monitor your credit and report suspicious activity right away.

These files are still under investigation and charges have not yet been approved.
