PORT MOODY – If you are pulled over for speeding through a School Zone next week, your ticket is going to look a little different.

On August 12, 2019 Port Moody Police began issuing electronic Provincial Violation Tickets (eTicket).  The eTicket program is a Provincial Road Safety Initiative designed to modernize and streamline the process of issuing Violation tickets within B.C. making roads safer.

All of the Patrol and Traffic vehicles have been equipped with the new Driver’s Licence card readers and portable printers that work in conjunction with the existing mobile reporting system already in the vehicles.

The eTicket program allows for officers to prefill templates and autofill offences that will ensure accuracy and improve overall efficiency.  The electronic transfer of the eTicket information still allows for the alleged offender to pay and dispute tickets in-person at ICBC locations, by phone or by mail, however you can now pay online at PayBC.

This program was piloted earlier this year by five police agencies and is now being rolled out across British Columbia.

“Road Safety is as much about education as it is enforcement. Providing efficiencies through technology allows more time for our officer’s to focus on both of those aspects by clearing stops quicker and getting back on the road,” says Sgt Travis Carroll of the Community Services Section.

Although the ticket looks a little different, the contents, penalties and validity is the same as the blue carbon copies issued to drivers in the past.
