October has been designated as ‘Domestic Violence Awareness Month’. The Port Moody Police Department Victim Services Unit is supporting the Purple Lights Campaign in the hopes of creating more awareness about domestic violence and its impact on families and the community. The Purple Lights campaign originated in Covington, Washington in 2007 in response to the need “to provide awareness education to the community and business leaders promoting healthy relationships while giving support to victims of domestic violence” (Source: https://www.purplelightnights.org/history/). The Port Moody Police building will be lit up purple during the month of October in support of this initiative.
In addition, PMPD Victim Services along with other community partners, will be hosting a ‘Relationship Safe{TEA}’ on Wednesday, October 19 at the Port Moody Rec Centre from 10-1. Please join us for some tea provided by David’s Tea and treats courtesy of Thrifty’s as you peruse informational booths offering resources on and support for healthy relationships and families.
