PROPERTY CRIMES:
Thefts from vehicles continue to be a problem due to items of value being left inside (IPods, iPhones, chargers, laptops, briefcases, wallets, GPS units, garage door FOBs, cash).  Recent thefts have occurred on Mount Royal, Seaforth, Edward Crescent, Carlsen Place, Appleyard Court, Camellia Court, Washington Drive, Burrard Crescent and Capilano Road.  Please do not leave items in your vehicle.

Police received a report of a suspicious male on a bicycle dressed in black looking into vehicles at 5am in the area of Panorama Drive and Aspenwood Drive.  The male fled upon approach of the police and was located hiding in the bushes.  The 33 year old male from Surrey was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest as well as being in possession of stolen cheques and identification.  Police are requesting charges for possession of stole property and possession of identity documents.

Residents were awoken by the sounds of someone inside their home.  The homeowner confronted the intruder while his wife phoned the police.  Officers attended and dealt with the 20 year old suspect.  While dealing with the suspect it was apparent that the male was quite “high” on illicit drugs.  The suspect appeared to have broken in while under the effects of MDMA, magic mushrooms and alcohol but had not attempted to steal anything or cause any problems with the homeowner.

ROAD SAFETY:

A 42 year old male was issued a 90 day driving prohibition for refusal .  His vehicle was also impounded.  In the course of dealing with the male driver, a 44 year old female was arrested for obstructing a police officer.  The female was released on a promise to appear.

Officers were conducting radar enforcement on St. Johns Street when they observed a Mercedes traveling 108 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The driver, an 18 year old male from Coquitlam, was issued a ticket for excessive speed and had his vehicle impounded.

A 32 year old male from Coquitlam was issued a 90 day driving prohibition for drinking and driving.

129 tickets were issued, however most were written warnings to drivers.

MISCELLANEOUS:

A 21 year old male was stopped for speeding.  During the traffic stop the officer detected the odour of bulk marijuana coming from the vehicle.  The male was arrested for drug possession  The male attempted to provide the officer with what appeared to be a homemade laminated card stating he was allowed to possess marijuana.  Unfortunately for the male, it was not a “real” card from Health Canada and had no validity whatsoever.  The officer seized the bag of approximately 8 grams of marijuana.  No charges are being sought and the male was sent on his way.  The only official means of legally possessing marijuana is with an “authorization to possess dried marijuana” card from Health Canada.  Compassion club cards, dispensary cards etc. have no legal standing.

Officers responded to a report of a fight at the Ioco Town site.  The officers located the two 18 year old combatants.  Both parties had sustained minor superficial injuries in what was determined to be a consensual fight “over a girl”.

An officer was conducting speed enforcement along Heritage Mountain Boulevard when he observed a vehicle travelling above the speed limit.  A traffic stop was conducted and the officer detected a strong odour of vegetative marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.  The 22 year old male from Burnaby was arrested and officers located cash and multiple individually packaged quantities of various drugs.  Police are requesting charges of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
