The following is a summary of the items of interest for the month of May 2016.
Patrols: Officers conducted foot patrols at White Pine beach. Members conducted bar checks at The Brew Street Pub, Burrard Social House, Rocky Point Tap House, and The St. James Well. Roadblock conducted on the Barnet Highway.
Traffic: Officers conducted seatbelt/stop sign checks on Moray Street at Mohawk Avenue.

Motor Vehicle Incident: Officers were dispatched to a vehicle that submerged into the water at Rocky Point Park. PMPD members attended and fire and ambulance were already on scene attending to the driver. Witnesses stated the driver was in her vehicle approximately 100 meters away from the boat launch when out of nowhere; she began to accelerate toward a group of thirty people who were standing off to the side. The vehicle came directly towards the large group and fortunately they were able to move out of the way with no one being injured. The speed of the vehicle was estimated at 50-60 km/h when it was accelerating toward to the large group. After nearly hitting the large group, the vehicle went off an embankment and submerged in the inlet water. Paramedics assessed the driver and determined her to be suffering from an acute medical condition. The driver was taken to via ambulance to Eagle Ridge Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
Theft: Complainant contacted the Port Moody Police to report her bicycle had been stolen from the back yard of her residence on Ravine Drive in Port Moody, BC. The officers spoke to the complainant, who stated the bicycle, a black Schwinn mountain bike with a grey paisley seat, had been in her fenced backyard. The complainant did not have a serial number to provide nor any video surveillance or cameras.
Theft: PMPD received a report of a theft in progress at Shoppers Drug Mart located at 3215 St Johns Street. A male and female entered the store then browsed the fragrances. The female attempted to distract the sales associate while the male selected a fragrance. Both browsed the make-up isle where the female was seen to select and conceal several items in her purse. The male was not directly seen to conceal the fragrance but it was not returned to the shelf. The female is described as Caucasian, 20-25 years old, long blond hair, black rimmed glasses, wearing an Adidas jacket and dark pants. The male is described as Caucasian, 20-25 years old, short blonde hair, red t-shirt under a black zip-up hoody and dark pants. An itemized list was produced and added to the file. Total value stolen is $537. The suspects were last seen running toward Golden Spike Lane. Surveillance video seized. Still images of the suspects were e-mailed out to lower mainland officers asking for assistance identifying them. The suspects were positively identified. Both parties located in Port Coquitlam and arrested.
Suspicious Circumstances: An officer attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a rental vehicle which was a white Suburban from Enterprise Rental. The driver of the vehicle refused to pull over and stop before he drove into the underground parking lot at 110 Brew Street. A male, known to the police, fled from the vehicle on foot. Attempts to locate the male were not successful. Enterprise Rental was contacted and advised of the incident. Enterprise indicated that they wished to terminate the rental contract with the driver and requested to have the vehicle returned to their shop. The vehicle was towed to Enterprise.
Bylaw: A complainant contacted PMPD to report that on May 14th 2016 while riding his bicycle in the trails of Bert Flinn Park, 300 Parkside Drive, he had come across a female with two dogs not on a leash. The complainant stated that a very distinctive long haired lab red in colour had bitten his right shin area which required stitches at Eagle Ridge Hospital. The dog had apparently bitten the complainant’s leg several years previous and that he remembered the dog because it was so distinctive. The dog owner did not want to give her name to the complainant. Officers advised Port Moody Bylaw.
House Party: PMPD responded to a large house party. Upon the PMPD’s arrival at the above residence members discovered approximately 60-70 minors consuming alcohol at the location. No adults or parents were home. The property representative, who was a minor, was not cooperative with the attending officers when asked to shut down the noisy party. The officers then issued violation tickets to the property representative for providing under age persons a place to consume alcohol. As well a bylaw ticket for excessive noise was issued.
Perjury: A male was arrested for breaching his conditions. It was discovered that during the bail hearing the male knowingly gave false and misleading information to the Justice of the Peace. The male did this so that his conditions would be changed in the hopes that he could be allowed to be in close proximity to his victim. When this was learned the officers arrested the male for perjury and he was held in custody for another bail hearing.
Drugs: Officers stopped a vehicle at White Pine beach. Vegetative marijuana detected. One joint seized. No charges.
Bear: Bear sighted at Westhill Park. Two year old black bear walked along the path on the outside of the soccer field during a kid’s soccer game. Bear was not aggressive and was observed going back into the wooded area. No additional reports received.
Drugs: Male stopped at seatbelt check on Moray Street at Mohawk Avenue. Slight smell of marijuana emanating from vehicle. Vehicle and person searched incidental to arrest. Drugs located in center console.
Theft From Auto: Complainant contacted PMPD to report that his Dodge Ram had been broken into overnight on St George Street. Officers attended. Incident occurred between 2100 hours on 2016-04-28 and 0730 hours on 2016-04-29. No damage to vehicle. Complainant believes that he locked the vehicle. The following items were stolen from inside the cab of the truck. (1) Gun metal tungsten wedding band – Value $500.00 (2) Washburn yellow acoustic guitar – Value $200.00 (3) Samsung phone – Value $400.00 (4) Silver/black iPod generation 3 (16GB) – Value $100.00
Theft: On April 30, 2016 at approximately 0036 hours, complainant telephoned the Port Moody Police Department to report that his bicycle has been stolen from the parking garage of 400 Capilano Road. The complainant believes his bicycle, a Black and Green Giant REVEL 3 men’s mountain bicycle, was stolen sometime between 2200 hours, on April 28, 2016 and 0630 hours on April 29, 2016. The complainant stated his bicycle was secured along with two other bicycles in the communal bicycle area. The complainant noticed that the lock securing his bicycle to the parking frame had been cut.
Theft: Complainant called the Port Moody Police Department to report that her child’s BMX bike, Serial# 301CS57314, was stolen from a bike storage locker at 95 Moody Street, Port Moody. Unidentified person(s) used a key to access the storage locker. It appears there are locks that have been severed.
Fire: On April 28, 2016 at 1904 hours members of the PMPD, PMFD and EHS all attended a structure fire at 2010 St Johns Street. Port Moody, BC. Initial Investigation revealed fire originated in one particular apartment suite. All residents of the building evacuated and transported to Kyle Center by bus due to safety concerns regarding electrical issues. At approximately 2330 hours BC Hydro advised building was safe and residents could return.
Fraud: Officers checked a male and he was found to have an unendorsed warrant for Fraud offenses. The male was found to be in possession of tools contrary to his conditions. The male has a significant history in Fraud and Theft. It appears that the officer checked the male just prior to him committing mail thefts. The male was held for morning court for Warrant and new Breach charges.
Theft: Theft in Progress from the Shoppers Drug Mart located 3215 St. Johns Street. The male suspect stole a large amount of perfume. An officer located the male and a foot pursuit ensued. The male suspect was eventually apprehended inside the Vancouver Break and Wheel located at the base of Moray Street. The suspect male was apprehended and the product was recovered. The male was on a Recognizance of bail and was breaching conditions.
