The following are items of interest for the period of May 15 – 31, 2015
Property Crime:
As many of you are aware the Coquitlam RCMP recently noted an increase in vehicle thefts from their area. Our thefts are up from this time last year (9 vehicles stolen compared with 5 from last year). Of note, the majority of stolen vehicles are Ford trucks and Honda Civics. Also, 3 of our victims had left spare keys in the car. We recommend the use of anti-theft devices.
Increase in graffiti noted around the community especially at the skate park.
$200 worth of vitamins were stolen from a local store.
Someone has tried (and failed) to break into a number of businesses along St. Johns Street by twisting off the main lock with a wrench.
The communal mailbox on Ravine Drive was broken into. If you live in that area please be diligent about your bills for the next few months.
A longboard was stolen from outside the library while the owner was checking out books.
A vehicle was broken into and a purse stolen from the a church parking lot. The passenger’s window was smashed out.
A vehicle was broken into on Alderside Rd. Window smashed for access.
A resident on Panorama Place left their garage door opener in an unlocked car. Thieves stole the opener, entered the garage and gained access to the residence. From there, they stole the car keys and residence keys. The file is still under investigation. Please do not leave garage fobs in cars and lock the connecting doors between residences and garages.
Multiple vehicles were broken into on Panorama Place at the time of the above incident.
Mail stolen from a local residence was located in Mission.
Thefts from vehicles around Seaview Dr., Tuxedo Dr., Mount Royal and Balbirnie Drive.
A vehicle was stolen from Guildford way.
Road Safety:
5 drivers were taken off the road for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
182 tickets issued across various areas of town.
A 47 year old female’s vehicle was impounded for excessive speed (40km/h over the limit).
Miscellaneous:
Two intoxicated males were caught trying to climb the construction tower inside Brew Street. No charges are being sought.
Officers were made aware of an elderly resident who had been neglecting the care of a likewise elderly dog due to finances and mobility problems. Members attended the residence and transported the owner and dog to a veterinarian. Unfortunately the dog’s health was quite poor and was put down. If you or someone you know has difficulty in caring for their pets due to injury, declining health etc. there are a number of organizations that can and will help.
A male stole liquor from a liquor store, was stopped and arrested by police. Officers located the stolen goods and a small amount of drugs on his person.
An officer observed a drug deal and arrested two males. The driver, a 25 year old male from Burnaby, was arrested for trafficking cocaine and driving while prohibited. His vehicle was impounded. No charges were sought against the 23 year old who had purchased crack-cocaine from the dealer.
Police responded to a report of a single vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers noted the smell of marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested and police located marijuana as well as multiple bags of crack-cocaine and heroin.
