The following items are of interest for the period of January 01-15, 2016.
Property Crimes:
Thefts from vehicles continue to be a problem due to items of value being left in vehicles overnight (iPods, iPhones, chargers, laptops, briefcases, wallets, GPS units, garage door FOBs, cash). There was an increase of thefts in the Glenayre Area. Specifically there were six thefts from auto in the College Park Area. As a result of the increase in property crime the patrol officers conducted extra patrols in the Heritage Mountain, Glenayre and College Park area. Please do not leave items in your vehicle and remove the garage door opener from your vehicle if your garage is attached to your house.
Four adult males were located in a parked vehicle at 4:00 am in the business district area of St. Johns Street, Port Moody. The males were found to be in possession of a large hunting knife, an imitation firearm, masks, drugs, zap straps and break-in tools. The four males were arrested, charged and held for court. It is believed that the males were intercepted prior to doing a break and enter in area.
The Shoppers Drug Mart on St. Johns Street, Port Moody, had an adult male and an adult female steal $1500.oo worth of fragrances. The file is still being investigated.
Road Safety:
Extra traffic enforcement was conducted throughout the area, specifically on Barnet Highway, View Street, Turner Creek, Mountain Meadows and Heritage Mountain.
A 41 year old male driving a car in a 50 km per hour zone was caught driving 70 km per hour over the speed limit. The male driver was given and Excessive Speeding violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act. The car was impounded at the scene.
Four separate adult males were arrested and charged with Driving While Prohibited and released on an Appearance Notice. All four vehicles were impounded for seven days.
An adult male driver was driving erratically when a stop sign was struck and significantly damaged.
Miscellaneous:
The holiday parties resulted in three separate files where intoxicated adults needed assistance from the police.
An Identity Theft/Fraud file was opened when a Port Moody resident received a letter from a collection agency stating that they needed to collect almost $10,000.00 as a result of a loan being taken out in her name from a local Money Mart. The complainant knew that this loan was not hers. The complainant was also concerned because she had never lost her identification nor had she noticed any missing mail. A Fraud file was opened ant the complainant was advised to notify Equifax and Trans-Union of the identity theft.
The Port Moody Police is reminding people to be vigilant about keeping their identity secure by changing passwords often.
The Bank of Montreal had a subject fraudulently withdraw $1000.00 from a victim’s bank account. The file is still under investigation. The Port Moody police is reminding people to change their banking security PIN numbers often.
A Port Moody Glenayre resident reported that a bathtub was stolen from their carport. No suspects at this time.
A 63 year old Belcarra resident was arrested and charged for shoplifting various meats, dairy and chocolate products from the Port Moody IGA.
Multiple 911 calls were received due to an explosion that occurred at the Flavelle Cedar Mill on Murray Street in Port Moody. Large plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from a large steel structure building. Port Moody Fire, Port Moody Police and WCB attended the scene. No workers were hurt in the explosion and the incident was not determined to be criminal.
A Port Moody resident was concerned after her found a raw chicken foot on his front lawn. It was unknown how or why the chicken foot got there. No suspects as this time.
An adult male was seen masturbating at the Starbucks located on 2350 St. Johns Street. The suspect left the area prior to police arrival. Witnesses stated the male was wearing a grey toque and grey jacket, described as Caucasian, 40-50 years old. The Port Moody police take these sorts of incidents very seriously and the file is still being investigated.
An adult male was arrested and charged with breaching his Probation Order. The adult male was found with an air pistol handgun that very closely resembled a real handgun.
