File:  2022-437:  Police are investigating a crash involving a stolen vehicle; the driver remains at large.

On January 26, 2022 at about 10:45 am, police responded to multiple reports of a collision in the 400 block of McGill Drive.   Upon police arrival, it was determined a black Chrysler minivan (recently stolen out of Burnaby) crashed into an unoccupied yellow Ford hatchback, launching the parked car approximately 50 meters down the street into a fenced area.  The Chrysler ended up crashing into a tree.  The suspect driver fled on foot into a forested area.  He is described as Caucasian, in his 20’s, wearing a reflective jacket and a  white baseball hat.

Police contained the area.  There was an extensive ground search involving the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services, however, the man was not located and evaded arrest.

“The mechanism of the collision suggests the Chrysler was travelling at high rates of speed in this residential neighbourhood”  states Constable Sam Zacharias, adding that “thankfully there were no innocent bystanders injured as a result”.

Anyone with dash camera or CCTV footage in the area just before or after the collision is asked to contact Port Moody Police.  Additionally, anyone who may have witnessed a suspicious man fleeing into nearby backyards and trails is also asked to contact police.
