Over the past several months, the Port Moody Police Department (PMPD) has received numerous reports of catalytic converter thefts – the majority of thefts have occurred in the parking lots of Sasamat Lake.
In the month of August alone, PMPD responded to and investigated 7 thefts of catalytic converters. All 7 incidents involved vehicles parked in various Sasamat Lake parking lots and all occurred during the daytime.
PMPD has increased patrols in the parking lots and is making the public aware of these incidents. “It is unusual for this type of crime to be occurring during the day in such a public venue” notes Constable Sam Zacharias. “We are reminding park visitors to call police right away if they observe any suspicious person or persons. Additionally, anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call police.”
