Port Moody Police Department
Media Release
DATE: August 8, 2019
SUBJECT: Cannabis seizure
In June 2019, the Port Moody Police Department received reports of suspicious activity at a residential apartment tower. Complainants reported that multiple unknown individuals were coming and going from a suite, that there were numerous vehicles associated to the residence, and that no one appeared to be residing in the home.
An investigation was conducted by the Port Moody Police Department’s Community Action Team and in July a search warrant was executed on the suite to search for evidence related to drug trafficking. Inside, members located a sophisticated illegal cannabis distribution operation. Evidence recovered at the residence suggested that it was part of an organized network used to distribute illicit cannabis throughout metro Vancouver.
A 29 year old male from Surrey was arrested and approximately $75, 000 of cannabis products was seized from the residence.
The investigation is ongoing and charges have not yet been laid. Investigators are working with members of the Community Safety Unit, who are responsible for compliance and enforcement under the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act. The Community Safety Unit is a newly formed Provincial Government agency responsible for compliance and enforcement under the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act with a focus on the illegal sale of cannabis.
The Port Moody Police Department continues to encourage residents to contact the police if they see suspicious activity in their neighbourhood.
