On June 9, 2016 at 1130 a.m. a Port Moody Police officer attempted to conduct a vehicle stop with a stolen Dodge pickup truck from Alberta in the area of 2800 Murray Street Port Moody. The vehicle did not stop and left the area at a high rate of speed. A pursuit was not initiated but containment of the area was immediately set up with additional officers. With the assistance of RCMP Traffic Services helicopter (AIR1) the stolen truck was eventually found travelling westbound on Clarke Street in Port Moody.
The RCMP Traffic Services helicopter surveilled the truck westbound along Barnet Highway and followed it from the air as it turned into the Barnet Marine Park in Burnaby. The stolen truck then suddenly drove down onto the railway tracks and drove eastbound. From the air the occupants of the vehicle were then seen exiting the truck and fleeing on foot into the bushes.
Police Officers from the Port Moody Police, Canadian Pacific Police Service, Burnaby RCMP and Coquitlam RCMP had containment already set up in the area and all assisted. K9 Police attended the area and started a dog track. As a result of a K9 dog track the three occupants of the truck were apprehended.
An 18 year old male, a 17 year old male, and a 13 year old female from Alberta are in custody and facing numerous charges.
The Port Moody Police would like to thank LMD Traffic Services AIR1, Lower Mainland Police Dog Services, Canadian Pacific Police Service, Burnaby RCMP and Coquitlam RCMP for their assistance in this incident.
