In December of 2022, the Port Moody Police Department announced charge approval against Jesse Toews of Abbotsford after a report of a young female being “sextorted” through social media. Toews has since plead guilty to the following offences:

1. Publication of an intimate image without consent, contrary to section 162.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
2. Fraudulently using a computer password to commit an offence, contrary to section 342.1(1)(d) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Yesterday afternoon, Toews was sentenced at Port Coquitlam Provincial Court to 9 months imprisonment accompanied by a two year probation order.

“While this was a highly complex investigation, our detectives were tenacious and able to bring this matter before the courts” states Constable Sam Zacharias, adding that “we understand that these investigations do not always have the same outcome but we do encourage those who have become the victim of a sextortion to call police immediately.”
