File: 2019-1417 – Update to 2019 Child Porn File: In September of 2019, Port Moody Police Department (PMPD) advised the public of a local hockey coach who was under investigation for luring children and child pornography offences.
At the time, members of PMPD’s Major Crime Section met with key stakeholders and identified numerous victims, many of whom has direct contact with the suspect.
After an extensive investigation, the hockey coach, who cannot be identified due to a court imposed publication ban, plead guilty to the following offences:
- Importation & distribution of child pornography, contrary to section 163.1(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Possession of child pornography, contrary to section 163.1(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Telecommunication to lure a child under 18, contrary to section 172.1(a)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada; and
- Extortion, contrary to section 346(1.1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
On September 2, 2022, the man was sentenced to three and a half years imprisonment for the aforementioned counts.
“Numerous investigators worked tirelessly on this matter” states Constable Sam Zacharias, adding that ” the complex investigation spanned multiple provinces and states, and determined that well over 200 youth had been unknowingly exploited.”
