The following is a summary of the items of interest for the period of January 15-31, 2016.

Property Crimes:

There were 15 reported thefts from autos. The Ravine Dr / Brackenridge Pl / Creekstone Pl / Cecile Dr / Panorama Dr / Klahanie Dr / April Rd were the areas mostly affected.

The registered owner of a Dodge Van had his license plates stolen from his van while the van was parked roadside. License plates often get stolen when someone plans to commit insurance fraud or to drive stolen vehicles.

A homeless male was caught shoplifting food – no charges were laid. A PMPD police officer and the PMPD Victim Services Unit are currently assisting the male.

There were two additional shoplifting files where liquor and ice cream was stolen.

Two males stole $20.00 of change out of a vending machine located in the Port Moody Recreation Center. The two males were observed leaving the rec centre in a car.  The complainant explained that the males stole the money by sliding a $20.00 bill halfway into the machine and then he extracted the change out piece by piece, all while keeping the original bill.

An underground parking lot storage locker was broken into in the Suter Brook Area. It is believed that the storage locker theft is linked to theft from autos in the area.  Entry to the storage locker was likely gained by cutting chains and locks. The PMPD is advising people not to store expensive valuables in their storage lockers that are in communal areas.

Mail theft occurred at 200 New Port Drive Port Moody. Unknown what mail items were stolen at this time. This file is still under investigation. The PMPD is reminding people to check and remove their mail every day. Mail theft can be directly linked to identity theft and fraud.

PMPD officers attended Ravine Drive, near the entrance to 181 Ravine, in regards to a series of vehicle emblem thefts. The complainant reported that an unknown suspect peeled off the vehicle make/model emblems from the rear of each of their vehicles. Information from a third party indicated an identical incident occurred last week in the same location. A common connection is that all incidents occurred on Saturday nights in the same exact location.

A car was stolen from Simon Fraser Crt Port Moody. The black Chrysler 300 was stolen while parked and secured on the street. The file is still under investigation.

Fraud:

A male reported that his credit card was stolen and over $3000.00 fraudulent charges appeared on his credit card statement. This file is still under investigation.

Counterfeit Canadian money was turned into the PMPD for destruction. The victim in possession of this money was unaware that the bills were counterfeit until a merchant rejected them. The victim was unsure where the money originated from.

The PMPD has received numerous calls reporting attempted CRA (Canadian Revenue Agency) tax fraud incidents. The PMPD is reminding people not to release any private information on the telephone unless the source has been verified. Driving:

An adult male driver was stopped by PMPD police and after an investigation the male was arrested for drug possession.

An adult male driver was stopped by PMPD police and was caught driving with no valid insurance and was found driving while intoxicated due to drugs. The driver was issued a 24 hour driving suspension where his driver’s license was seized and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

Seven separate motor vehicle accidents were attended by the PMPD patrol section.

The PMPD processed 9 separate traffic files which resulted in charges.

In total there were 162 tickets issued by the PMPD patrol and traffic unit.

There were 9 impaired investigations processed by the patrol officers. The drivers were found to be impaired by either alcohol or by drugs. The drivers had their licenses suspended at scene and their vehicles were immediately towed and impounded.  The PMPD wants to remind people to plan their safe drive home at the beginning of their night.

Miscellaneous:

There were 10 mental health act calls attended where emotionally disturbed and/ or suicidal people and their families were assisted by the police. The PMPD now has a Mental Health Officer who works out of the Community Services Section. The Mental Health officer assists mentally ill people in our community and advocates for their continuity of care in the hopes of diverting these clients from the judicial system to the medical system.

“Hira” is a police dog in training. Hira is still a puppy and she is almost 5 months old. Hira is currently being trained by her PMPD handler and they often can be seen in the community together.

A Starbucks employee reported that an unidentified male was seen masturbating outside of the coffee shop located at 2350 St Johns St Port Moody. Extensive police patrols were conducted with negative results. No specific description of the male was able to be provided.

Police received a call from a male who was very upset with BC Transit because in his opinion the bus driver had taken him past his stop in Burnaby. The male had been drinking in Vancouver and was taking BC Transit home. Somehow the male missed his bus stop and felt this was BC Transit’s fault. The attending officers commended the male for not drinking and driving and transported the male to a local bus loop. The male was very grateful for the assistance.

A complainant reported that an unidentified male was seen masturbating at a bus stop along Guildford Way. The complainant could only give a description of a male wearing blue jeans, a black puffy jacket and carrying a white IGA shopping bag. Officers attended but the suspect was gone on arrival. PMPD members conducted patrols of the area which did not lead to any suspects being identified.

A 31 year old male was arrested and charged for assault causing bodily harm. The male and the victim are known to each other. The male is still in custody.
