The following is a summary of the items of interest for the period of February-April, 2016.

Patrols:

Foot and mobile patrols were conducted by our patrol uniformed officers numerous times in Suter Brook, Newport Village, Heritage Woods Secondary School, James Road, Port Moody Recreation Center, Klahanie Drive, and Rocky Point Park. Extra patrols were conducted as well in the Heritage Mountain area specifically to deter/catch mail thieves.

Traffic:

Traffic enforcement was conducted on Barnet Highway, around Heritage Elementary School, and on Heritage Mountain Boulevard. HOV enforcement was conducted in the mornings, evenings, and speed enforcement was conducted during all hours.

Files of Interest:

Drugs – A suspicious male was observed walking towards Mountain Meadows Elementary School. The male fled the area once he saw a police vehicle.  The male was eventually located by the police. As well, drugs, a glass bong, and drug paraphernalia were located hidden under a playground slide.

Mischief – The driver’s side window of a vehicle parked at 288 Ungless Way was found smashed. No suspects or witnesses. No items were stolen.

Break and Enter – Unidentified person(s) broke into a detached garage on Ravine Drive. Likely entry point was the garage door. Officers conducted a neighborhood canvas and learned that a white older model cargo van was observed parked behind the detached garage in the early morning hours. Several bottles of alcohol, four Honda studded winter tires, and a yellow drill were stolen. This file is still under investigation.

Theft From Auto – A vehicle on Portview Place was broken in to. The vehicle was accidentally left unlocked and $4-$5 in change was stolen from the ashtray. The garage door remote was stolen and the property owner believed he heard the garage door open at some point in the night. Nothing was stolen from the garage and the property owner has changed the garage door code number.

Suspicious Male – Police attended to an anonymous complaint of a homeless male with a knife sitting in front of the entrance to an apartment located on St Johns Street.  Police located the male and seized a spring loaded pocket knife. The male was cooperative with police.

Robbery – The staff at Shopper’s Drug Mart located on St Johns Street reported that a male had fled the store after having stolen 2 Bluetooth Speakers (Value – $157.67) and after threatening staff with a syringe.  Police located and arrested the suspect near the Petro Canada.  The property was recovered and the male was held for court.

Community – A four year old in the company of his father attended the front counter and appeared to be excited and asked to see a “real policeman”.  A patrol officer accommodated this very official request and went to the front counter in his uniform to meet the little boy and introduced him to a “real” police officer…

Property – A homeowner reported that she found her garage door pried open in the morning. The home owner stated she believed there had been an attempt break and enter in to her home sometime during the night. The homeowner reported her garage door code had been unsuccessfully tried multiple times as well. No items were missing.

Missing – A male was reported missing from Eagle Ridge Hospital. The male was considered to be high risk because he was homeless and in need of medical attention. Days later the male was later located safe and sound.

Property – Shoppers Drug Mart on St Johns Street contacted police to report that a male was inside the store attempting to pick up a narcotic with a fraudulent prescription. The police arrived and located the male inside the building and after a brief foot pursuit, arrested the male for fraud. It was confirmed through documentation that the prescription the male had used was fraudulent. The male was transported back to the Port Moody Police Department, booked into cells, interviewed, and subsequently released on a Promise to Appear with an Undertaken Given to a Peace Officer.

Theft – Staff had noticed the money box, containing approximately $200.00, was missing from the restaurant Rodos Kouzina, located at 100-221 Ioco Rd was stolen. Officers reviewed the video footage and observed a male suspect enter the building, walk into the office where the money box was located, and exit a short time afterwards with the box concealed under his jacket. The male appeared to be either Asian or Native, approximately 5’8″, 155 lbs., thin build, mid to late 20’s, black short hair, black facial hair with a partial beard, black jacket with a red trimmed hood, dark blue or black pants, and black shoes with a white Nike check-mark on the side. This file is still under investigation.

Theft – Staff from Koko’s Activity Centre reported a theft of $350.00. The money was taken from the cash drawer in their office. An unknown male was seen on video surveillance entering through an unlocked door. The male appears to be Caucasian with dark hair, wearing a black jacket with red trim around the collar, and a black baseball cap with a red brim and red button on top. This file is still under investigation.

Mental Health – A male was found covered in mud lying in the middle of the street crying, and banging his head on the ground. Officers tried to speak with the male and calm him down but he was not receptive to their efforts. It was determined that the male was in need of medical attention and was apprehended under the mental health act.

Suspicious Person – A suspicious male was seen in the Pleasantside Elementary School.  The male was described as appearing to be homeless. The witness  advised she only saw the male from behind, as he was leaving and described the person as possibly Asian or Aboriginal, long black hair, wearing a dark coloured baseball cap, black shirt and dark pants and was carrying a large black garbage bag over his shoulder.  Police attended the school and it was determined that nothing was stolen. Police conducted extensive area patrols and walked the trails and roadways with negative results.

Theft From Auto – A car owner reported that her Plymouth van that was parked overnight at the Eagle Ridge Hospital had been broken into. There were no signs of forced entry and no damage was caused. It is the belief that the van may have been left unlocked.  Approximately value of items stolen is $300.00.

Assist Public – Two young boys contacted the PMPD to report that they were lost in the woods. Officers conducted extensive mobile and foot patrols. Cellphone tracking situated the boys approximately 1 kilometer south of Henry Street, in Coquitlam. Coquitlam RCMP assisted and located the boys who were unharmed.
