FILE:  2023-2918 – Police are appealing for information after a deliberately set fire damaged Trasolini Field Friday night.

On May 26, 2023 just prior to midnight, Port Moody Fire Rescue responded to several fires set on the turf field behind Port Moody Recreation Complex. A group of youth were seen using an accelerant to light the fires, then observed fleeing the area into the Shoreline Trail. Thankfully, firefighters quickly extinguished the flames before they spread. Nevertheless, the damage is estimated to be up to $4,000. Efforts by police to locate the suspects were unsuccessful.

“We are appealing to the public for help” states Constable Sam Zacharias. “We believe someone has information that can aid our investigation. If you want to remain anonymous, you can contact Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.”

Of note, the current fire danger rating in Port Moody is ‘high’. Firefighters responded to another deliberately set fire on the evening of May 28 near the Shoreline Trail. That blaze was also quickly extinguished by firefighters. The public is encouraged to continue reporting any fires or suspicious activity right away.
