PORT MOODY – On March 10, 2016 at approximately 0630 AM, the Port Moody Police responded to a report of a tree that had fallen and struck a residence in the 1000 block of Alpine Place in Port Moody, BC.

Port Moody Police, Port Moody Fire Rescue and the BC Ambulance service attended and located a residence that had the roof line struck by a large fallen hemlock tree. The tree impacted the roofline causing extreme damage to the upper floor of the residence.  A female occupant of the residence was on the upper floor of the residence and was struck by the tree as it fell.

Port Moody Fire Rescue worked feverishly to locate and uncover the victim but unfortunately she had succumbed to her injuries.

The Port Moody Police Victim Services Unit was deployed to the scene to provide support to the other family members that were in the residence at the time of the tragedy. The British Columbia Coroner Service attended and is investigating.

The Port Moody Police extend their thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of the victim.
