Vision & Hearing Requirements

Vision Requirements

• binocular vision, with uncorrected visual acuity of not less than 20/40 in one eye and 20/100 in the other eye
• corrected visual acuity of not less than 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other eye, and 20/20 with both eyes open
• normal colour vision, able to pass Farnsworth test with no more than one mistake
• normal binocular vision

The same standards apply to those applicants who have had laser eye surgery, except that there is a waiting period of 30 days from the date the last eye was corrected for the purpose of assessing both vision and stability.

Your vision test must be submitted with your Employment Application Package. It may be on the PMPD Vision Report Form or on another form that addresses all of the requirements set out above.

Hearing Requirements

Applicants must meet the following standard: “all pure tone thresholds are 25dB or less in each ear at each frequency in the range of 500-3000 Hz.”

You are not required to submit a hearing test at the time of initial application.
