The successful recruit applicant will be sworn in by a Judge, Justice of the Peace or the Chief Constable as a probationary Municipal Constable. To become a Certified Municipal Constable, the Probationary Constable must take intensive training at the Police Academy and successfully complete an 18-month evaluation by Port Moody Police Department. The current recruit tuition fee is $9,690 per student (March 2011). This fee is subject to change without notice. The recruit is responsible for this payment to the Police Academy on the first day of Block I training. Financing is available. Police recruit training is divided into three blocks totaling 34-38 weeks. Subjects include the following: Investigation and Patrol, Legal Studies, Traffic Studies, Social Sciences and a Physical Skills Training Program. Recruit training is conducted at the Justice Institute of British Columbia, located at 715 McBride Boulevard, New Westminster, B.C.
