On August 27, 2009 the Port Moody Police Department received information from the Canadian Border Service Agency regarding a bulk quantity of Opium being shipped to an address in the City of Port Moody from Istanbul Turkey. Investigators from the Port Moody Police Major Crime Section initiated an extensive integrated operation involving authorities from other municipal and federal agencies.

On September 5, 2009, Investigators with the Port Moody Police Major Crime Section successfully arrested a 35 year old Port Moody resident Azad YOUSEFI without incident in Burnaby and is charged with the following:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Opium)
  • Unlawfully Importing a Controlled Substance (Opium) into Canada.

The total amount of Opium seized during this operation was 5.267 kilograms with a retail street value of approximately $500,000.
